What will you learn?

Most Narrative Designers are determined, talented, and self-taught–at least that is my experience.
Lacking formal education, I usually knew what to do to achieve good enough effects, but I had only a vague idea of why it worked.
After two decades of working with smart people, teaching smart people, and learning from smart people, I’ve begun to construct an answer to why the craft of narrative design works.
I feel it’s the right moment to share the findings with you.

01.

We’ll work

on how to tell stories in a way suited to our medium, starting with high concepts and going down to the dirty, practical details.

02.

We’ll examine

the tools we have at our disposal, and how and why they work–and what doesn’t work.

03.

We’ll consider

how to use theoretical frameworks to create better stories and effectively share know-how within our industry.

04.

About me

I have designed games for almost two decades, and for over a dozen years, I have taught game design at universities, courses, and as a mentor. I worked on big AAA titles (the first two Witchers), AA medium and small (11 bits, Anshar, BLANK.), artistic indies (Different Tales), and mobile F2Ps (ATGames), and as a lecturer at the Lodz University of Technology, I mentored over a hundred of student projects.
I’d love to share this unique experience and perspective with you.

05.

For whom?

Mainly for narrative designers, who want to consolidate their practical knowledge and build a theoretical framework for their work.
For other designers, who want to know more about how stories work, for better communication with the narrative team.
For practitioners of other disciplines, who want to change careers.
For people interested in the theory and practice of interactive storytelling in video games.
